16 Hours in Manama, Bahrain

Exceeded expectations, Calm, Cultural

We spent some time in Bahrain during a 16-hour layover (intentionally booked it this way), but we got a good flavour of this pearl of a nation *pardon the pun*. I would love to return!

The museums were brilliant and unique. They give justice to Bahrain’s rich history and its origins. The mosques are obviously grand, meticulous, and beautiful. Don’t leave without visiting The Tree of Life! She’s been rooted in a desert for hundreds of years: unique and touching – make sure you share some water with her when you visit.

Our driver was a hospitable, knowledgeable, and friendly local – he really looked after us. We had an in-depth discussion about local life, the realities of life in Bahrain, and the current political climate. I highly recommend him for a comfortable and enjoyable guided tour of Bahrain (Brother Fadhel – Tejwal Tourist Service).

Key highlights:

  • Al-Fateh Grand Mosque
  • Bahrain National Museum
  • 1st Oil Well
  • Tree of Life
  • Beit Al Quran (Quran Museum)
  • The Cathedral of Our Lady of Arabia – largest cathedral in the gulf, well-lit and beautiful inside!
  • Bab Al Bahrain (Souk)
