3 Countries – 3 Days

Adventurous, Unexpected, Transcending

I’ve hit 40 before 30! Macedonia marks the 40th country I’ve globetrotted to, and it still fills me with surprise. It was never on my bucket list, but then again, nor was Bulgaria 👀.

Anyway, we almost never visited Kosovo. We took a risk by going (nothing major – just the off chance we could miss our flight home). It was worth it. Every second. Every decision.

Bulgaria (Sofia)

Key Highlights:

  • Banya Bashi Mosque
  • St. George Rotunda Church
  • St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral
  • Church of Sveti Sedmochislenitsi
  • Spacious city and multi-cultural
  • Lindor Lindt Pistachio
  • Budget friendly

Top Tip: Fly into Sofia and book an organised tour by road to nearby countries.

Overall Rating: 5/10

Macedonia (Skopje)

Key Highlights:

  • Charming city, friendly locals, delicious food and great vibes!
  • Old Bazaar
  • Skopje Fortress Kale
  • Sultan Murad Mosque
  • The Stone Bridge
  • Macedonia Square
  • Memorial House of Mother Teresa
  • Easy to find somewhere to pray.
  • Budget friendly
  • Food: Pastrmajlija (Macedonian pizza), Polneti Piperki (stuffed bell peppers), Pindjur (tomato and red pepper spread), Tavche gravche (baked beans), Kebapi (minced meat on grill), Macedonian ice cream

Top Tip: Carry USD or local currency

Overall Rating: 8/10

Kosovo (Pristina, Prizren, Sharr Mountain)

Key Highlights:

  • Carshia Mosque
  • Fatih Mosque
  • Mahmet Pasha Hamam
  • Stone Bridge
  • The Sinan Pasha Mosque II
  • Kalaja Fortress
  • Prizren is quaint and beautiful.
  • The mountainous region was breath-taking.
  • Budget friendly
  • Food: The Trilece (three milk cake) was delicious!

Top Tip: Get a local guide (ours transformed the entire experience). We felt uncomfortable/received lots of stares when our tour guide wasn’t with us after 8pm in Prizren. The country is still a newborn baby when it comes to tourism.

Overall Rating: 7/10
