Amsterdam

Lively, Culturally-rich, Immersive

A top European city, which exceeded my expectations. I never imagined enjoying it so much and finding my itinerary overflowing (my poor friends were exhausted by the end of it).

There are ample museums, exhibitions, and immersive activities to do in this cycle-friendly (and very walkable) city.

We visited two immersive exhibitions at Fabrique des Lumieres – The Last Sentinels: Heroes, from near and far and Gustav Klimt, Gold in Motion.

Amsterdamians are so friendly a stranger even let me take a picture with his bike when I stopped and asked.

Highlights:

  • Van Gogh Museum
  • Rijksmuseum
  • The Upside Down
  • Fabrique des Lumieres
  • Anne Frank House
  • Getting the Eurostar directly from King’s Cross St. Pancras
  • Food: Dutch pancakes and poffertjes from The Pancake Bakery; Stroopwafels from van Wonderen Stroopwafels, Dutch-style fries from Vlaams Friteshuis Vleminckx, Halal Malaysian food from Wau Malaysian Restaurant

Top Tip: Book all your tickets for museums, attractions, exhibitions etc. months ahead as everything sells out fast and you’ll be disappointed.

Overall Rating: 8/10
