We all know how stressful travelling can be. So I’ve put together some tips to ease the process.

- Research your destination thoroughly so that you know how many days you’ll need. I find that 2-3 days are generally enough time for me to spend in European capitals (this will vary depending on your interests).
- Check the weather of your destination beforehand. If it’s a warm place, find out if the climate is tropical or dry, as this makes a big difference to your wardrobe.
- Get an e-SIM instead of having to buy a whole new SIM card. I use the Airalo app (just check your phone for e-SIM compatibility first).
- Take lightweight, one-piece outfits (avoid layers).
- Purchase packing cubes – these can really help you pack and organise your belongings strategically.
- Roll those scarves, trousers, and tops, and pick ONE pair of comfortable shoes that match all your outfits. There’s no need to travel with your entire shoe collection.
- Ensure your luggage meets cabin requirements (check the dimensions against the airline’s requirements – email them if still unsure). Try to purchase lightweight luggage!
- Consider taking a rucksack if it’s a short trip.
- If you have too many liquids, consider taking a bar of soap instead of shower gel.
- Look into laundry services at your accommodation or even nearby. That way, you can take half as many items of clothing and simply wear them over and over, AND you can probably return home with your laundry done.
- Don’t always rush to exchange money before you arrive at your destination as the rates abroad might be better.
- Apply for a travel friendly debit or credit card with minimal/no fees (e.g. Halifax Clarity card or Starling) and withdraw cash abroad in local currency, or simply tap your card where applicable. Still carry some emergency cash in GBP or USD, though!
- Carry a travel adaptor cube that has USB ports and a regular socket.
- If you decide to take a power bank on a plane, ensure it meets the airline guidelines as there are usually restrictions on the wattage.
- Keep an additional form of ID with you e.g. Driver’s licence just in case you lose your passport.
- Don’t forget your passport!
