Ancient, Rugged, Heart-racing
What a trip.

This ancient city sprewed with Mango con Chile y Limon vendors, tacos, and nachos will take you to an unparalleled swirl through history and beyond.
I highly recommend watching a live Lucha Libre fight – a trip to Mexico City would be incomplete without this. Learning about the Aztecs, their traditions, and norms was exciting. Visiting the Museo Nacional de Antropología is highly recommended! It’s grand, with extensive Mexican artefacts, and a plethora of historical knowledge.

It was unfortunate that due to political events, the motorway was closed, and we couldn’t visit the Teotihuacán to see the famous Aztec pyramids! As a result, the driver made a U-turn on the motorway, and somewhere along the chaos, I got the following shot.

Take an organised tour to Xochimilco, an authentic region that plays homage to the pre-Hispanic past of the city. Onboard a gondola-like boat – a trajinera – we feasted on fresh, crunchy tacos fried and constructed before our eyes, while fellow colourful boats passed by with live mariachi bands. Don’t forget to requench on fresh coconuts!

Key highlights:
- Lucha Libre at the Arena Coliseo
- Xochimilco
- Museo Nacional de Antropología
- Centro Historico (city centre)
- Coyoacan – Frida Kahlo House
- Cuernavaca – a pretty city about 1.5h drive from Mexico City. Worth a visit!
Top tip: We avoided metred taxis (the pink ones) and stuck to Ubers and pre-booked cabs just to be safe.
